Refugees are people who have fled their country because of persecution or harm. Refugees feel they have no choice but to leave because their government cannot or will not protect them. Refugees have the right to seek asylum (habeas corpus), receive medical care, receive education and work. 

Asylum-seeker

An asylum seeker is a person who has been displaced but has not been legally recognized as a refugee. Asylum seekers are those who have fled persecution in their home country and are waiting for a formal decision on their asylum application in the country of their choice. Anyone can seek asylum in a country.

Migrant

Immigration has no legal definition. However, the term is often used to describe a person who is neither a refugee nor an asylum seeker but has a legitimate reason to leave the country. These could include major injuries, political instability and climate issues not yet seen as crises. In addition, discrimination or threats of violence based on gender, colour or sexual orientation may be the reason migrants flee their home countries. Immigrants are entitled to the protection of their human rights.
